Breast Engorgement Relief
Tips for Breast Engorgement Relief
Breast pain can be really difficult to get through! After my milk came in a few days after having baby, I remember not wanting to wear a shirt or even a bra because they were so sensitive to touch. I had clogged milk ducts in my breasts and under my armpits. As a new mom, I tried everything. After trying different methods and talking with my doula, this is what I found to be the best! I pray that you are able to achieve breast engorgement relief!
This blog post will show you the best steps for breast engorgement relief
1. Put on your Pumping Bra
Put on your favorite pumping bra! Loosen it a bit if you need the extra room for pain relief. My personal favorite is this one from Kindred Bravely. The material is super soft and comfortable!
2. Attach pumps/haakas
Attach your pumps (or haaka) to both breasts to catch the let down. Don’t turn them on just yet! For right now, you just need something to catch the milk.
3. Add heat
Add heat pads! Heat will help unclog milk ducts. Warm your heat pads in the microwave and place them on your breasts for about 10 minutes (or until they’re no longer warm). You may notice milk starting to let down and fall into your pump. (This is a good thing!)
4. Hand Massage
After adding heat, massage your breasts using your favorite oil. I like to use this nipple butter cream. The texture easily turns into an oil base making it easy to glide on your skin. Continue to massage for about 5 minutes on each breast.
5. Deep massage
After hand massaging, use the vibrating breast massager for deep massage. This also helps with those painful lumps to help unclog the milk duct.
6. Pump
Now that everything has loosened up, it’s time to pump! Non-wearable breasts pumps like this one are much butter than wearable breasts pumps because they have better suction. You want something with strong suction to help drain your supply!
7. Ice
Once you’re done apply cold packs to reduce swelling. The heat packs also work as ice packs. I have two pair for this reason! If you also have nipple pain, I recommend getting cooling hydrogel nipple pads.
